Drain Cleaning & Jetting Sunshine Coast

High-pressure drain jetting and vacuum recovery for stormwater pipes, pits, gully pits and culverts across the coast, the hinterland and the southern growth areas.

Drain cleaning restores the capacity a network loses over time to sand, silt, leaf litter, roots and debris. On the Sunshine Coast most of it is done with combination units, which cut material loose inside the pipe by high-pressure water jetting and recover it by vacuum on the same truck, so the blockage is removed rather than pushed further down the system.

Crews work from Warana on planned maintenance programmes for councils, asset owners and civil contractors, and on reactive work after a blockage or heavy rain. Where the condition of a line matters, a CCTV run can follow the clean on the same visit.

Sand and silt in coastal catchments

Stormwater in the low-lying coastal suburbs carries a lot of fine sand, and it settles wherever flow slows: in gully pits, along flatter sections of pipe and at outlets near the beaches and waterways. A line can lose much of its capacity to sediment long before anyone reports a blockage.

Drain jetting with a de-silting nozzle works that material back to an access point where the vacuum recovers it. Sand is heavy, so the likely volume, and how often the unit will need to leave site to empty, is worth estimating at quoting stage.

Pits, gullies and culverts

Much of the work is not the pipe itself but the structures along it. Gully pits and side-entry pits fill with sediment and litter, and culverts under rural and hinterland roads collect debris and vegetation after heavy falls. Culvert cleaning in the hinterland can mean working off sealed road with little standing room, so access is confirmed before a crew is sent.

Pit and culvert work suits a planned programme, cleaned in sections across a network rather than all at once. Buried or sealed-over access points have to be found and opened first, and on older networks that step can take longer than the cleaning.

Getting ahead of the storm season

Summer storms test every drainage network on the coast. A pit half full of sand in spring can mean a flooded street after the first heavy downpour, so councils and asset owners get the most from cleaning programmes run in the weeks before the wet season.

Those same weeks are busy for cleaning and inspection crews across south east Queensland, so work that can be scheduled is best booked early. Reactive jobs after heavy rain are taken on as the fleet allows, and urgent work can be raised by calling 1300 822 878.

Cleaning ahead of CCTV

A camera cannot assess a pipe wall buried under sediment, so cleaning normally comes first whenever a line is to be inspected. Running the combination unit and the CCTV vehicle together means one mobilisation, one set of traffic controls and footage that shows the pipe rather than the silt.

If the same line keeps filling, the camera usually explains why: a displaced joint letting sand in, root intrusion, a sag in the grade or an unrecorded connection. Cleaning it again treats the symptom. The footage is what lets the cause be fixed.

FAQs

Drain Cleaning & Jetting Sunshine Coast: common questions

What is the difference between drain cleaning and drain jetting?+

Jetting is the main method used to clean a drain. High-pressure water breaks up silt, roots and blockages inside the pipe, and on a combination unit the loosened material is recovered by vacuum at the same time. Drain cleaning is the broader job, which can also cover pits, gullies and culverts.

When should stormwater cleaning be scheduled on the Sunshine Coast?+

Ahead of the summer storm season wherever the programme allows. The network then goes into the wet months with its full capacity, and crews are easier to book before demand peaks.

Do you remove what comes out of the drain?+

Yes. Sand, silt and debris are recovered into the truck and taken to a licensed facility rather than flushed downstream. If your organisation needs disposal records, mention it when you enquire.
