Hydro Excavation & Vacuum Excavation Brisbane
Brisbane is a major centre for infrastructure, utility and commercial construction, and Dynamic supports contractors across the metropolitan area. Crews handle service-safe digging in congested corridors, drain and stormwater maintenance and civil earthworks support for projects of all sizes.
Hydro excavation in Brisbane
Hydro excavation breaks up ground with pressurised water and recovers the spoil by vacuum, which allows an excavation to be taken down beside a live service without a bucket ever touching it. It is a form of non-destructive digging, and on most Brisbane infrastructure and utility work it is the method an asset owner will accept near its assets.
Typical scope across the metropolitan area is service proving and potholing before design, exposing assets ahead of trenching, boring or piling, precision trenching, and excavation tight against existing structures. Ground across Brisbane varies from reactive clay through to rock, so the practical rate of progress and the right equipment for a site are confirmed on enquiry rather than assumed.
Congested corridors and incomplete asset records
Brisbane carries some of the oldest reticulation in Queensland alongside newer trunk infrastructure, and in the inner suburbs the record of what is actually in the ground is not always complete or accurate to the centimetre. Plans locate a service approximately. They do not prove its depth, its alignment or whether something undocumented is sharing the trench.
That is the gap potholing closes. Exposing the asset and surveying it before design or construction removes the assumption, and it is far less expensive than a strike, an emergency repair and the delay that follows. In the CBD and inner-city streets the constraint is usually access and traffic rather than the digging itself, so setup, permits and staging are worked through before the crew arrives.
Stormwater and sewer maintenance
Drain cleaning and high-pressure jetting clears stormwater and sewer lines, pits, gullies and culverts across the metropolitan network, with debris recovered into the tank rather than displaced downstream. Work is both programmed maintenance and reactive attendance after a blockage or a storm.
CCTV inspection records the condition of a line so an asset owner has something to plan against, and is commonly specified before and after construction to establish and then verify the state of an asset. Cleaning and inspection are usually run as one visit.
Supporting infrastructure and commercial construction
Brisbane work spans civil construction, roads and transport, rail, water and wastewater, electrical and telecommunications utilities, councils and commercial construction. On larger programmes vacuum excavation is usually one part of a wider package, with excavators, bobcats, tip trucks and hydro tankers supplied alongside it where a project needs supporting plant.
Underground service locating is available through the Dynamic Group, which means a site can be located and then exposed without coordinating two suppliers around the same access window.

Hydro excavation compared with vacuum excavation
The two terms are often used as though they mean the same thing. In practice vacuum excavation describes the removal method and hydro excavation describes the cutting medium. Understanding the difference makes it easier to specify the right unit.

Hydro excavation as a risk control on civil construction sites
On a civil site the excavation method is a programme decision as much as a safety one. Hydro excavation is specified because it narrows the range of things that can go wrong at the point where a project is most exposed.
