Hydro excavation loosens the ground with pressurised water and draws the slurry up into a tank by vacuum, so a crew can dig down to a live cable, main or conduit without a bucket going near it. The operator stops and the exposed asset is left in view so the site engineer or asset owner can identify it. On older Hunter sites that is common, which is exactly why the ground is taken down progressively instead of with a bucket.
